physical description: Despite his age Hayato is still a short but stout, and muscular man. He often describes himself as boulder like, since it is very difficult to move and toss him around during a fight. Hayato is fast and agile, but keeps a solid, defensive form almost all of the time. It is easy to pick him out of a crowed because of his distinct, dark clothing style that he prefers over general Earth Kingdom garb. He has spiky grey hair, that his held back by a white headband and he also has a grey mustache to match.

overall personality:
Hayato is just a stubborn and anti-social man. He'd much rather be alone, out in the country, than be in a big city with lots of people. It isn't that he dislikes larger cities, he just isn't a fan of large crowds. Hayato doesn't get along with others very well, especially younger people since a lot of them are disrespectful, manipulative, and obnoxious in general. Of course there are exceptions, Hayato gets along great with quiet people.
Due to his mastery of Earthbending, Hayato does have a bit of an ego. Hayato is smart, and thinks before he acts on anything. Waiting for the perfect moment to strike if a philosophy that he strongly lives by. He believes that he is one of the best earthbenders and that the younger generation of earthbenders have lost touch with the morals of their bending art.

Hayato Midori was born in Earth Kingdom capital, Ba Sing Se, fifty six years ago. He was the second child of non-bender Goro Midori, and his earthbending wife Yuki. Daichi, Hayato's older brother, was a non-bender like his father and got much of his attention while they were growing up. It never bother Hayato though, the attention from his mother was more than he could handle. His mother knew little about earthbending, since she was forbidden from practicing the art during her childhood, but taught her younger son as much as she could.
He never got proper earthbending training until he was nineteen. Hayato had joined the Earth Kingdom resistance as soon as he turned eighteen, but was soon sent home because of a near fatal injury. It took him nearly a year to recover from his wound, but during that time he realized how weak and defenseless he was up against properly trained benders. Hayato sought out a powerful earthbender to teach him. As a teen he prowled the streets of Ba Sing Se, searching for somebody to teach him. Eventually he located an Earthbending Master, who was all but willing to train him. The earthbender believed that he was too softhearted and weak to become a true earthbender and rejected Hayato many times.
The earthbending master followed Hayato into the city and set up a trap to test him. He falsely kidnapped his older brother, who had agreed to play the part earlier, and waited to see what Hayato would do. To the earthbender's surprise, Hayato didn't charge in, instead he thought out a plan and waited for the right moment to attack. When Hayato rescued his brother, the master he had been begging revealed himself and agreed to train him.
Hayato took to bending easily, showing his teacher that he would soon be a great earthbender. Together they trained for four years and by the time Hayato had completed all his master had to offer, he had become a truly powerful earthbender. His attitude had changed completely during the time, and he was now much more intelligent, careful, and anti-social. And during this time Hayato married Hana, and had their first child. A year after his training the couple had their second child, a daughter whom Hayato had always been close to.
Feeling empowered, Hayato was eager to get back into the war and take out some more firebenders. He became a ranking officer, showing great skill in planning counterattacks and strategy. But the war soon ended after Avatar Aang defeated the Fire Lord. Hayato returned home to help raise his children and improve his bending skills.
After his children had grown up and moved out, Hayato moved out of Ba Sing Se and relocated near the edge of The Swamp. He took on a small number of students to make a little extra money on the side. He taught many young earthbenders, some showed promise and some didn't. His wife died mysteriously and Hayato lost the drive to train young earthbenders. However, every once in awhile Hayato takes on a new student when they show enough determination and drive to become a truly powerful earthbender, but not until they convince him to.
